If you’ve ever looked at your family’s screen time and thought “Are we the only ones struggling with this?”… you’re not. And now there’s fresh research that proves it.
A powerful new peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of Children and Media, “Family Digital Wellbeing: A National Survey of Parents”, has confirmed what so many of us already feel deep down: managing screens at home can be overwhelming, confusing, and sometimes downright exhausting. But, there’s good news. It also shows that help makes a real difference.
At Screen Sanity, we’ve been championing community-based digital wellbeing for years, and this research gives us a big boost of hope and validation. It found that when parents are supported through school workshops, community talks, or resources that give them shared language and practical tools, their confidence goes up, and so does family connection.
That’s huge. Because this isn’t just about tech…it’s about relationships, mental health, and showing up for our kids in the ways that matter most.
We know families want to do better, but they’re often not sure how to begin. This study shows that starting small works. A conversation. A new boundary. A school community choosing to talk about digital wellbeing out loud, together.
Here’s what the research tells us:
We’re proud that community-based work such as Screen Sanity’s programs were included among the examples of what’s working – and we’re even more inspired to keep making it easier for families to start their own journey.
